*Join Julie Mayo and Christy Funsch in conversation with Amelia Uzategui Bonilla and Kimberly Bartosik on Sunday, March 28 at 6pm EDT ABOUT THE CLASS: Accretion and Erasure: In this workshop Julie and Christy extend invitations to build and shed materials and presences. Working with a layered approach to generate potentials, while remaining open to the relations and relativities that are arising, we will pursue a series of prompts and timed experiments to feed our creative selves. We will also make time and hold space for group conversations. ABOUT THE ARTISTS: Julie Mayo is a dancemaker, performer, and teacher who has been called "an associative, sometimes absurdist choreographer" by the New Yorker. Her work has been presented in New York at The Kitchen, Gibney Dance, New York Live Arts, JACK, Dixon Place, Movement Research at the Judson Church, Brooklyn Studios for Dance and The Chocolate Factory Theater. Julie has been an Artist-in-Residence at Movement Research, Center for Performance Research and New York Live Arts (Fresh Tracks). She is currently a 2021 Gibney DiP Resident Artist and has been the recipient of creative residencies at UCross Foundation, Djerassi, Yaddo, Virginia Center for the Arts, and Mount Tremper. juliemayo.com Christy Funsch formed Funsch Dance in 2002 and has since been presented nationally and internationally. She holds an MFA and a Laban Movement Analysis Certification, and she has been awarded choreographic residencies at CounterPULSE, Djerassi, Shawl Anderson, the U Cross Foundation, and Yaddo. She has been an artist in residence at James Madison University, University of Nebraska Lincoln, Virginia Commonwealth University, and (currently), Slippery Rock University. In 2013-14, Christy was mentored by Tere O’Connor and named one of Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch.” In 2015 she taught her improvisational practice 100 Days Score at ImpulsTANZ, and in 2019 she was a Fulbright Scholar at Lisbon’s Escola Superior de Dança in 2019. www.funschdance.org |
