Watch testimonials from Jennifer Nugent, Angie Hauser + Chris Aiken, Yanira Castro, Kyle Marshall, Ariel Lembeck + Marion Spencer, Ogemdi Ude, Sara Shelton Mann + Tori Lawrence, Nattie Trogdon + Hollis Bartlett, and others on why you should GIVE to freeskewl.
On March 17, 2020, freeskewl began hosting online movement classes. Working in response to an urgent, seemingly-short-term crisis (the COVID-19 pandemic), the initiators (Sofia Engelman, Anna Maynard, and Em Papineau) did not think about sustainability at all when devising freeskewl's structure of operations.
freeskewl prioritizes artists and creates access. Income from classes is paid at a sliding scale rate with no participants turned away for lack of funds.
freeskewl administrators work a combined total of 30-100 hours per month to make freeskewl happen. This group of young dance artists have worked on a weekly basis to monitor classes, support freeskewl's Reparations Initiative, keep up with bookkeeping, organize and assist with promotion of programming, devise freeskewl's performance and artist talk series, support special programming, and MORE!
It is time to think about sustainability.
Contributions to freeskewl cover in-person and online operations costs, administrative labor, and artist fees. Help us continue to support our artist community.
